so here’s to this life.
so often it is a simple task to look at the abundance of obligations and the massive to-do lists and get lost in making it through today. i can really struggle to be my best self; the me that sees the best in others, who goes out of my way to spread some light and happiness. sometimes it feels like im on my own-trying to be a mini generator of all the happiness i can have or share with others. we were looking at poetry by Naomi Shihab Nye, and one of these poems titled, “So Much Happiness”, really rocked me. (i’ll include an image of it below)

what i truly love about it is how happiness just is- it is not created by us or for us, it just is part of this word as much as pencils and loose change. it is here surrounding us always, it just isn’t super obvious all the time.
“and love even the floor which needs to be swept” this is something we look at and groan as we feel our never ending todo list is blocking out the life that we must lead. when in reality life is the scratched records and dirty floors, and life is even more beautiful for it.
while we may believe we are seeking perfection, we are simply seeking happiness. and this opened by eyes to see even the little things, the messy things and the to do list as all of the things that make my life. even when i feel overwhelmed and like i am amidst the everything (!!!!) that life throws at us, i just have to sit back and think of how i won’t regret a thing. we get to mold our lives the same way we can mold how we see happiness.
so here’s to this life. as unswept as it can be and how swept up we can get with everything we do. i promise it’s a beautiful one and i swear it’s a happy story – just keep your eyes open.
